The programs found in this section are the result of an Environmental Scan done with the intention of capturing the diversity of programming that exists in Indian Country. Through these efforts we identified important community-level research and demonstrations of innovative cultural- and practice-based prevention and intervention efforts that are improving the lives of Tribal families and children within Indian Country.

From Legacy to Choice — Following up on earlier suicide prevention initiatives, including Native Hope, the Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT) developed and implemented a five-day workshop on understanding multigenerational trauma. | |

Gouk-Gumu Xolpelema (All People Coming Together): Strengthening the Core — Gouk-Gumu Xolpelema implements the Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) and uses motivational interviewing to work with clients toward nurturing parenting, positive change, and harm reduction to prevent fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). | |
Guiding Good Choices — Guiding Good Choices® is a multimedia family competency training program that uses a social development model to promote healthy, protective parent-child interactions and reduces risk for early substance use among families of middle school children (ages 9-14) of all races/ethnicities. | |
Healing House — The mission of Modoc Nation Behavioral Health’s Healing House is to infuse hope, heal trauma, and foster growth in their community by providing, education, resources, and behavioral health services. Holistic System of Care for Native Americans in an Urban Environment / Friendship House American Indian Traditional Treatment & Recovery Healing Model — The Friendship House Healing Center operated a SAMHSA Targeted Capacity Expansion grant project in collaboration with the Native American Health Center (NAHC) to expand substance abuse treatment capacity and HIV services for Native Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area who have a history of involvement in the criminal justice system. | |
Hollow Water First Nations Community Holistic Healing Circle — One of the best-known sentencing circles, the Hollow Water First Nations Community Holistic Healing Circle, helps community members to deal with the high level of alcoholism in Hollow Water by dealing with the harm created by the offender, healing the victim, and restoring the community. | |
Ina Maka Family Program — Ina Maka Family Program (IMFP) serves American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) families with newborn and young children, offering families with American Indian/Alaskan Native children one-on-one time with trained Parent Partners who work with them to make sure they receive the support they need. | |
Indian Child and Family Services: Incredible Years — This program drew connections between the skills taught in the Incredible Years (IY) intervention sessions and traditional American Indian beliefs, values, and traditions, encouraging parents to consider Pan-Indian and family-specific values in choosing target behaviors and intervention strategies. | |
Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) — Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) is a prevention-based service that pairs a mental health consultant with families and adults to help improve child rearing. | |
Intensive Family-Based Support Services For Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Children And Families — The Intensive Family Based Services (IFBS) program, reflecting key features of the US Homebuliders model, offers intensive, time-limited, and home-based support for Aboriginal families in crisis where children are at risk of entering out-of-home care or are currently in care and a restoration plan is in place. | |
Kake Peacemaking Circle — The Kake Peacemaking Circle intervenes in state court cases for violations such as underage drinking, and domestic violence, leading to the healing of the Kake community and significant reduction in suicide. | |

Living in 2 Worlds (L2W) adapts Keepin' it REAL for Native adolescents living in urban areas. |
