Starting the Journey: Initial Considerations for Researchers Working in Indigenous Communities

Researchers working in Indian Country have a responsibility to enter a Tribal nation with humility, cultural competence, and knowledge of Indigenous research norms and methods. There are numerous resources and training about doing research with Indigenous people and communities that can provide valuable insight. Researchers might also seek guidance from Indigenous people with lived experience doing research in Indigenous communities. This resource provides researchers with a framework to engage effectively and respectfully with Indigenous communities.
